Chapter Three

Usagi awoke to a very startling scene. She wasn’t on Earth at all though; she was surprisingly in the old ruins of the Moon Kingdom, and instead of being guarded by Tuxedo Mask, she was being guarded by the tiny sprite of the late Queen Selenity. The ghouls, or Specters, that were flying around in Mamoru’s apartment were also surrounding Usagi, but not actually making any attempt to go after her.

They were waiting for something.

Usagi stirred and surveyed what was going on to gather her bearings, and to discover that she was surrounded by the Specters, and genuinely didn’t know what to do or where to go. Queen Selenity then approached her, and Usagi started to calm more and more as she neared.

“Princess Selenity.” Queen Selenity began, addressing Usagi by her old name. “I’m sorry this had to happen, but I could not stop her.”

“Who?” Usagi asked, half covering her ears from the screams from the specters still flooding in around her.

“Selene.”

Usagi had no time to react as the Specters started to move in again, and the dome of free room around the two became smaller and smaller, until the energy around the tiny Queen Selenity become so bright, that it was just enough to distract the monsters enough that they could escape. Thankfully, the Specters weren’t that intelligent.

Usagi found herself then in a strange room, bordered with stone carvings and old stone flooring, and with the prominent symbol of the moon in various places.

“Princess Selenity.”

Usagi turned around then to find the sprite of Queen Selenity perched on a massive super computer, set aglow with a blue hue, giving it an eerie and ancient glow.

“This is the Moon’s supercomputer. Since the first peoples of the Moon here started to discover their inherent magic, they created this to keep a record of all the events that have happened here.” Queen Selenity explained. “These people worshipped their goddess they named Selene, after the peace that they were granted from her. This beautiful calm did not come without it’s cost, however. A little known fact about her was that she was very possessive. She believed that she had a right over everything that was here.”

Images on a rather medium sized view screen on the higher panel started to play out visual recordings of events which took place on the Moon. More specifically, it began with the last visiting on the Moon by the senshi, and rewound back to where the Moon was fought over, and was surrounded with chaos and was nomadic.

“A change came in the form of the first owner of the Cosmos Seed. This seed was not given a clear definition, but what we do know is that it was the first starseed ever to be produced from The Cauldron. It was a beautiful, bright soul which journeyed the Universe to witness it’s beauty first hand, even when leaving The Cauldron meant that it would be weakened.

"Once it reached the Moon and it’s Sol System, it decided to leave a part of itself to be left on the Moon, so it could go on at least in part as a physical representation - a legacy of itself of sort - while the other half of the Cosmos seed continued on in the less powerful version of it‘s whole self.

"That physical representation that was left on the Moon we know as The Ginzuishou.”

Usagi neared the computer, and placed her hand on the view screen, where it continued the tale told by Queen Selenity, as if the two entities were combined in harmony.

“The first Queen Selenity, the avatar child of Selene herself, kept the Ginzuishou away from her mother goddess, as her mind was deceived by her own greed and possessiveness.” Queen Selenity paused to look to Usagi, and continued in her story, so that her daughter, at least in some way still her daughter, could understand.

“The Queens of the past bestowed this knowledge down from mother to child, and so on. They knew that the two halves would one day unite and a pure soul who possessed the Cosmos seed would once again emerge. Princess Selenity. Usagi. They were united in you.”

Usagi turned back to the sprite, her head swam with these new facts that were introduced to her.

“What does that mean, then?” she asked.

“The Goddess Selene over the years has grown angry, violent and vengeful, and the establishment of the Silver Millennium, although kept her contained, has caused her rage to become extreme. You could only imagine how she is like upon viewing her Specters, as they are but a taste of how truly fearsome her rage is at the moment. Now that the Cosmos Seed is reunited, you can then put the her spirit to ease.

"She still has the mindset she did in the era she was stable and most powerful. To her, even if her descendant rightfully have the seed, in her mind it belongs to herself, and no one else. Usagi. Daughter. Please heal her. It is the only way to give her peace.” Queen Selenity finished, settling on part of the horizontal section on the supercomputer.

Suddenly, the Specters were able to reach the two in the computer room, and grabbed Usagi around the waist, and transported her out, to bring her to the surface to face Selene’s wrath.

Usagi awoke to find herself in the ruins, atop of a specially carved slab of stone, among other smaller ones. Ahead of her she spotted what appeared to be a seat, but she couldn’t be sure. What verified her suspicions were the tattered rags of what once were curtains in royal colors, and she was positive now.

This was the throne to the Moon Kingdom.

Usagi got to her feet, and started to walk towards what appeared to have been the throne, and reached out to touch it, when a spirit came out of the opposite wall, and knocked her clear over, rolling along the beaten stone floor.

“YOU!” The spirit screamed to Usagi, throwing an accused finger in her direction, appearing like just a larger version of the Specters around. Usagi got up again, and tried to prepare herself for another onslaught.

But it never came.

Usagi called upon her Ginzuishou, as she has done numerous times in the past, and simply held it out in her palms to Selene, and only looked upon the Moon Goddess. Selene’s movements however, started to become more fluid and more calm as she looked upon the crystal of power.

“That’s a very pretty gem you have.” Selene cooed, contemplating if she should go near her descendant.

“Thank you.” Usagi replied simply.

There were many moments of silence between the two, frozen.

“Enough of this…” Selene muttered softly, and started barreling towards Usagi, contorting her appearance into something even more frightening than it already was.

The Ginzuishou activated, and a brilliant white light emitted from the center to expand and stretch around both the enraged spirit and Usagi. Tugs and whispers, singing and crushing, and all of the event leading up to this moment seemed to rewind in their minds, growing brighter and brighter until it was blinding for both parties.

They were being enveloped - to within the Crystal itself.

The only thing the two saw were the other, floating in energies of white, silver and a light, beautiful pink color, suspended peacefully. It was first Usagi to wake up, and discovering that she was in her pure form, she neared Selene, but the Goddess’ appearance had changed; her hair and clothing were lighter in color, her hair was a brilliant pure white, her dress came close to what Usagi wore as Princess Selenity, and wore a headdress which looked like a more elaborate version of what Queen Selenity had on her forehead so very long ago.

With Usagi near, Selene awoke, and looked upon her surroundings. What she saw then was the reason Usagi was here altogether. A ghostly fuku appeared on Usagi’s body, which made Selene’s eyes widen not wholly in surprise, but also acknowledgement.

“Cosmos….” Selene whispered to Usagi, finally a peace coming over her that she hasn’t had in millennia. Or possibly more. She looked to Usagi once again. “I….”

Usagi merely nodded while that final moment arrived, and Selene finally understood; This was the embodiment of Cosmos, her descendant, Princess Selenity.

The space around them started to shift, and then faded away, while Selene herself faded even faster, until Usagi found herself back on the Moon’s surface, faced with Queen Selenity, still in the ruins of the old Throne Room.

“Is it done?” Usagi asked, not quite sure to make of this whole thing still.

“She is at peace. She has returned to the Cauldron to heal for now.” Queen Selenity affirmed, but a shadow passed over her face, and turned it into one of worry. “However, with this transition I fear the worst.”

“Why?”

“Selene, although wise and powerful in her day, she made many enemies while defending this place. One, of which, I fear shall return to Earth.” Queen Selenity said, before she made an image appear, like a pool over one of the bigger slabs of square rock which was once the floor of the great throne room.

It was a fearful creature of shadow which attacked the Goddess numerous times, all of which it were fended off. The mere size and power that it showed could very well make them tremble. It was truly a creature of wrath. A very ancient one.

“What is that?”

“Even I do not know. But now that Selene is no longer in this place, I fear that he shall return and exert his anger upon these planets. You must not let this happen, Usagi.” Queen Selenity warned, urging her daughter to avoid the unimaginable.

“I won’t.”
